Title: Dick Pics! (A Documentary)

Artists: Directed and Animated by Hannah McSwiggen and Russell Sheaffer

Statement: At its backbone, this film is about the practice of sending unwanted, unsolicited pictures of a man’s own penis to others. As a culture, the public reaction to this behavior tends to fall somewhere along the lines of “Dick pics are gross but also hilarious. Perverts, eh? Who can ever understand what they’re thinking?” We overwhelmingly dismiss this behavior as mildly gross, but also as an inexplicable and, perhaps, inevitable consequence of modern connectivity. In making "Dick Pics! (A Documentary)" we aimed to understand this behavior as a conscious choice made by all different kinds of individuals looking for specific, often divergent outcomes. By pulling from conversations and threads on Reddit, we've tried to make a film that's self-conscious and hilarious, but also that earnestly and legitimately works to understand the reasoning that makes sending someone an unsolicited picture of your penis seem like a good idea.
