Statement: The works in Young Documents offer vignettes into young people's everyday lives through the act of documenting one's own experience. All of the works are shot by young people about themselves and their peers' functioning as a set of home movies away from home.

We expect our audience to respect the distance boundaries of others (keep 6 feet y’all) and honor the fact that we are still in a pandemic.

If you’re not vaccinated STAY HOME. If you feel sick STAY HOME. If you wanna stay home. STAY HOME.

Title: Super Fresh Guys

Artists: Carsita Williams and the teens on the tapes.

Statement: Found in a bin at a thrift store on a road trip through the southwest an entire archive of a group of teens antics. With a total of 87 tapes, this video is off the tape marked in sharpie “Super Fresh Guys.” The footage was minimally edited to preserve the feeling of how it was shot and how they would have probably watched it among themselves.

Year: My guess is it was shot in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Edited in 2019.

Origin: USA

Title: Last Drag

Artist: Sophie Day Filmed & Edited

Statement: This video is from 5 years ago when I was coming home to visit New York after my first semester away at college. I remember documenting my life a lot during this time since it was such a time of transition. I think I knew everything was changing and I was beginning to look back at my teenage life with a new perspective. Upon reflection I can see that I felt sad and alone, though I was always around people. It's an interesting time capsule for me now since I have grown so much and my life has changed almost unrecognizably. It feels very naive and young, in a sweet and sincere way. The title, 'Last Drag', in a surprisingly self aware way reflects the finality of a chapter and the heaviness of that end. I was 18 when I made this and had just begun college across the country. This video seems like a goodbye to my old life, though it really took years to change. It features different friends of that time and moments from nights going out in New York and closes with a shot of my suitcase as I prepare to leave again for school. There is a heaviness and loneliness beneath the fun and partying that is being shown. I'm very grateful there are spaces for the work of a earnest teenage girl to be appreciated like this one, and hope it can serve as a way to reflect on our transitions from youth to young adulthood.
